Aldgate Area Guide

Centuries ago Aldgate took its name from the fortified gate (now long demolished) that allowed people to come and go through London's city wall. Nowadays it is considered as the gateway to Canary Wharf's thriving financial district

As you would expect from an area sandwiched between two major financial zones, Aldgate attracts a wide range of businesses, including several major insurance companies. Despite its reputation as a business district, it has recently seen an increase in residential development to accommodate an influx of young professionals attracted by the city lifestyle. Their arrival, together with a recent regeneration project around St Botolph's Church, has injected new life into what was formerly regarded as a more traditional part of the city and provided exciting opportunities for property investment in London.
